What was your issue with the on-screen text before the film? Doesn’t it just say that it is based entirely on their memories?
I avoided most of the trailers for Sinners. It’s a bummer how you can’t watch trailers these days without getting a movie ruined. Same thing happened to me with Drop

There are a shots/setups in the film that could not have been from the soldiers’ memories, such as the first time we meet the family as they are scrambling behind a door/wall. Commit to the conceit or don’t offer it.
Good point. I guess I saw that more as where Garland’s anti-war stance comes in to feel gaps. But totally see how you’ve got a problem with that! Good catch
